Q: What made you open up a store here in the desert? Karen: Well, after moving to the desert full time in 2002, I was still doing design jobs on the side while maintaining a pretty demanding job as a sales representitive for a major swimwear line. I always knew I wanted to open a store so when this current space became available, my husband looked at me and said "Let's do it". I left my job and haven't looked back since. Q: What do you think makes Karen Harlow for the Home special? Karen: Well, I hope to start with, it's the people. We are a real family affair here. If you don't see me here at the store you will probably see my sister Sally or my husband Sandy. I want the store to be a place where customers can come in and get inspiration for their own home and want to move away from the typical matching furniture and fabrics. I want them to step out a bit and maybe try that Madeline Weinrib ikat pillow.
